This notice explains what personal information FunNoted collects when you visit funnoted.com, why we collect it, how long we keep it and what you can ask us to do with it. It is written for readers in Canada and follows the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
Who is responsible
FunNoted is an independent editorial project publishing reviews of free mobile games at funnoted.com. We act as the organisation responsible for the personal information described here. Questions, corrections and access requests go to hello@funnoted.com, and a person on the desk answers them.
What we collect
- Technical data from your visit: IP address, browser and device type, operating system, referring page, the pages you open and the time of the request. This arrives automatically in our hosting logs.
- Cookies and similar storage: small identifiers used to remember your cookie choice and to count visits. Categories and lifetimes are listed in the cookie notice.
- Newsletter form data: the name you type (optional), your e-mail address (required) and the fact that you ticked the consent box, together with the date of that action.
- Web push identifiers: if you allow browser notifications, a subscription identifier issued by your browser, plus the tags we attach to it — the site domain, the name you gave and the source of the sign-up.
- Advertising identifiers: identifiers set by advertising partners whose creatives may appear on the site, used to limit repetition and to measure whether a placement was seen.
We do not ask for a telephone number, a postal address or payment details, and no payment form exists anywhere on this site.
Why we use it and on what basis
- To deliver the site: serving pages, keeping them secure and diagnosing faults. Basis: our legitimate interest in running a working website.
- To send editorial updates: e-mail and browser notifications about changes to the shortlist. Basis: your express consent, given by ticking the box on the form.
- To understand what is read: aggregated counts of page views and popular reviews. Basis: consent for optional analytics, as recorded through the cookie banner.
- To display advertising: showing and measuring promotional placements. Basis: consent for advertising cookies.
- To answer you: handling correspondence sent to our address. Basis: your request and our legitimate interest in replying.
Service providers
We share personal information only with providers who process it on our instructions, and only as far as their task requires:
- Hosting provider: stores the site files and keeps server logs.
- OneSignal: processes e-mail addresses, push subscription identifiers and the tags attached to them in order to deliver newsletter messages and browser notifications on our behalf.
- Analytics and advertising partners: receive event and identifier data used to measure traffic and placements.
Some of these providers operate outside Canada, which means information may be stored on servers in other countries and may be accessible to the courts and authorities there. We use providers that commit contractually to a comparable level of protection.
How long we keep it
- Server logs: up to 12 months, then deleted or aggregated.
- Newsletter and push records: until you unsubscribe or ask for deletion, and up to 24 months of inactivity after that.
- Cookie choice: up to 12 months, after which the banner appears again.
- Correspondence: up to 24 months after the exchange closes.
Your rights
Under PIPEDA you may ask us to confirm whether we hold information about you, to give you access to it, to correct anything inaccurate, and to delete it where we have no reason to keep it. You may revoke consent for the newsletter, for browser notifications, or for optional cookies at any time — through the unsubscribe link in any message, your browser settings, or a note to the address above. Revoking consent does not affect processing carried out before it.
We answer access requests within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC), the federal supervisory authority for PIPEDA.
Children
The site is written for adults choosing games for themselves or for a family. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has signed up, write to us and we will remove the record.
Security
The site is served over an encrypted connection. Access to the newsletter list is limited to the editors who need it and is protected by individual accounts. No system is perfect, so if a breach affects you and creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify you and the OPC as the law requires.
Changes to this notice
When this notice changes we update the date at the top of the page. Material changes affecting consent are announced in the newsletter before they take effect.
